BACKGROUND

This unit will initially be part of DGO in 2021 but will eventually be hosted by another parent unit in 2022 (TBD).
IUCN Academy is seeking a Programme Officer who is highly motivated with pro-active qualities, skilled, well organised and capable of operating effectively in a highly demanding fast-paced environment. The start date for the position can be earlier than the date mentioned in this advert.
The newly-established IUCN Academy provides best-in-class learning experience for internal and external clients, utilising a broad and creative range of pedagogical methods. IUCN holds a great wealth of theoretical and practical knowledge on how society should sustainably use natural resources and biodiversity. The IUCN Academy will leverage this knowledge to train individuals (professionals and postgraduate students alike) with the knowledge and skills to drive the green transition our societies are calling for.

JOB DESCRIPTION

OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION
The main objective of the position is to support the IUCN Academy Project Manager in the development and implementation of the IUCN Academy portfolio of programmes.
The Programme Officer is expected to work as a seamless team with the other members of the IUCN Academy Team.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
o Support IUCN Centres and Regional Offices in the development and delivery of capacity building projects
• Liaise with IUCN Centres and Regional Offices to support the development of the capacity building components of their projects, analyse the proposed approach and advise on methods to define and fine tune strategic and learning objectives.
• Support IUCN Centres and Regional Offices to identify relevant training needs for the design of their capacity building projects.
• Accompany IUCN Centres and Regional Offices in the design of their curriculum and provide expertise in pedagogical engineering and techno-pedagogy to support achievement of learning objectives
• Participate in the planning for the delivery of activities
• Support the evaluation of capacity building projects
o Contribute to the development of the portfolio of programmes offered by the IUCN Academy
• Identify existing training needs in nature conservation, inside the conservation professional community and beyond
• Perform market research and assess viability of training projects
• Identify relevant IUCN expertise for programme design and delivery
• In close collaboration with other IUCN Academy staff, participate in the design and delivery process of programmes, including distance learning.
• Use expertise in pedagogical engineering and techno-pedagogy to propose training formats that increase attractivity and impact of the IUCN Academy portfolio of programmes
• When necessary, support the communication and marketing activities around IUCN Academy and its portfolio of programmes
o Contribute to the training of lecturers and programme coordinators in the delivery of the IUCN Academy portfolio of programmes
• Develop documents and guidelines for lecturers and programme coordinators.
• Develop and deliver information and training sessions, as well as best practices exchanges, on adult learning and relevant teaching methods and skills.
• Develop and maintain resources accessible to IUCN staff, on adult learning, teaching methods and skills (including distance learning), pedagogical engineering and techno-pedagogy.
o Actively monitor developments in the field of andragogy and techno-pedagogy, with a view to make proposals for innovation.
The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. However, in a small organisation such as IUCN, staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job description. Where any task becomes a regular part of an employee's responsibilities, the job description will be changed in consultation with the employee and the Human Resources Management Group.

REQUIREMENTS

• Master’s degree
• Training in education sciences (andragogy et techno-pédagogy) or relevant experience in those fields.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience for the position.
• Experience in project management, including continuing education project management.
• Experience in e-learning, distance learning and adult learning and competence in pedagogical engineering.
• Demonstrated interest in nature conservation and the broader topic of environmental sustainability.
• Capacity to analyse and synthesise information.
• Well organised and autonomous professional.
• At ease in multicultural contexts, very good communication skills, sense of diplomacy and willingness to be part of a team.
• Excellent English written and oral communication and working knowledge of French, Spanish an asset.

SALARY

The minimum gross annual salary for this position is CHF 100'355, subject to deductions for social security contributions and second-pillar pension, and before tax. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
